Overview

How It Works

Shockwave Therapy uses high-energy acoustic waves to stimulate the body’s natural healing response in injured or painful tissues.

During your appointment, your physiotherapist will first assess your condition and identify the area requiring treatment. A handheld device is then applied to the targeted region, delivering controlled acoustic pulses through the skin.

These pulses help increase local circulation, stimulate tissue repair, and promote biological processes associated with healing. The treatment is commonly used for persistent tendon conditions, plantar heel pain, shoulder pain, and other musculoskeletal complaints.

The intensity can be adjusted according to your comfort level and clinical needs. Most sessions take approximately 10–20 minutes and are often combined with a personalised rehabilitation programme to achieve the best outcomes.

All techniques are performed with the consent of the patient, after evaluating individual needs and discomfort tolerance.

Your Experience

What to Expect

During treatment, you may feel a tapping or pulsing sensation over the affected area. Some people experience mild discomfort, particularly when treating long-standing conditions, but the intensity can usually be adjusted.

Following the session, it is normal to experience temporary soreness or sensitivity for up to a few days. This is often part of the body’s response to the treatment process.

Many patients notice gradual improvement rather than immediate relief, as tissue repair and recovery take time. Depending on your condition, a series of sessions may be recommended.

Your physiotherapist will explain your treatment plan, expected recovery timeline, and any exercises or activity modifications that may support your progress between appointments.
